Staying TruBlue

So it’s the day of the first big game and we go in with a -2 given that both Frasor and Lawson will be out. Yet I am still staying truBlue…they were my Heels when we had the drought between Dean and Roy and they’re still my boys. Perhaps the home court advantage will boost us. Whatever the score, we all know it’s gonna be a great game.

My consolation is good always triumphs over evil (aka Heels over the Devils). Perhaps not in this one battle, but we always win the war!!! Love them Heels!

So we lost one

You’ll be glad to know that I am layered in Carolina apparel today in show of support for my boys. I guess the third time is not so charming. This was our third close game and unfortunately we didn’t pull it out like we did against Clemson and Georgia Tech. I am still TruBlue yet really missing Frasor who comes through in the clutch. You can feel his absence and someone needs to step up. Graves is trying yet Ellington and Green need to be more consistent. I don’t think Tyler is ready to play with the big boys just yet given that he was shut down during the first half. Hopefully his game will mature more over the next few months as I feel this will be his last year in Sky Blue. And then there’s Quentin Thomas, or lab rat as I ‘affectionately’ call him. Perhaps Roy should put some glue on his palms before he sends him in so that he can better hold onto the ball; the turnovers are killing me.

Win or lose I love Carolina Basketball. Go Heels!

Still undefeated…

The Heels are some lucky sonofaguns! I watched the entire game last night. Yelling quite a bit and I still do not know how we won that game. GT came to win. Came to send a message to the undefeated #1 Team. I hope we hearken to it. We’ve had two VERY close calls lately, and we cannot keep this up if we are going to the big dance. It almost felt like my guys felt entitled to the win and that’s a bad place to be: pride cometh before a fall. All in all, I love my guys and my blood does run Carolina blue.

Too close for comfort

Last night’s game had me on the edge of the couch. My emotions tossed about with every other play. I went from cheering and whistling to yelling @*#$! at the same player within seconds. I hope Roy will make the boys watch that tape again and again to understand that when your big man is covered by two opponents you really shouldn’t throw him the ball. I know this seems like basketball 101, but apparently it’s true that you always have to revisit the basics. And I’m sure that Clemson will spend some time in practice at the free throw line….

I know you all know just how much I love Carolina Basketball….but I thought I’d say it again. TAR HEELS!!!

We are undefeated, although we haven’t played any real competition as of yet. Our first ACC game will be Jan 6 against Clemson, which should be a very good one since Clemson is much better this year. The game tonight was amazing – I was taken back to the Championship team with Raymond Felton. The steals by Frazor and Lawson, the 3-pointers by Frazor and Ellington, and the inside hustle by Hansbrough…beautiful. The next three months are going to be lovely.

 Hopefully I can get my proposal done while watching basketball…

my gripe for the week

I was away from blogging this week because I spent most of it stuck in a small room with education researchers watching videos and debating how to rate the teachers. To make me more crabby, I came in contact with something that made me break out in hives from my head to my knees (literally). I spent some five hours in the ER (which kind of takes the Emergency out of the whole process, dontcha think??) only for them to send me out with a prescription at 11pm. Mind you I live in Mayberry and had to drive 20 minutes to the nearest 24hour pharmacy only to find that their computer system was down and the 18 yr old behind the counter couldn’t possibly fill my prescription because he has no idea what was done BEFORE computers….that felt good. I got that off my chest.

 And to add insult to injury BOTH Serena and Venus lost to Henin in the US Open. I am glad the week is over.

Venus x4

I woke this morning in time to see Venus take her fourth win at The Championships at Wimbledon. With this win she enters a league of phenomenal women athletes: Billy Jean King, Martina Navratilova and Steffi Graf. What one has to notice is that Venus is the frist African American to enter this elite group. Venus graciously acknowledged the work of Billy Jean King in paving the way for her to be on Centre Court in the All England Tennis Club. Yet we must also acknowledge Arthur Ashe, as the first African American to break into the sport. Now we have the Williams sisters who will open many more doors for little black girls to think that they too can one day stand on Center Court looking up at them in the stands, thanking them for what they’ve done to make it possible for other black females to advance in the sport.

 Cheers to Venus and Serena….Now on to the US Open !!!

Don’t call it a comeback?

The Williams’ sisters are back in action and getting their usual attention at Wimbledon. Those who know me know how big of a tennis fan I am. I think Serena is the best player in years and am glad to see her fully back in the game….mind, body and soul. Venus is nothing to laugh at either, but they both have hard matches coming in the next round of play. Venus playing Sharapova and Serena playing Henin. I think Serena and Justine will play a great match. I am hoping that Venus wipes the court with Sharapova….she’s way too prissy for my taste, and those Canon commercials make me want to vomit.

 Only time will tell how far these ladies will go, but I love being along for the ride.
