I know you all know just how much I love Carolina Basketball….but I thought I’d say it again. TAR HEELS!!!

We are undefeated, although we haven’t played any real competition as of yet. Our first ACC game will be Jan 6 against Clemson, which should be a very good one since Clemson is much better this year. The game tonight was amazing – I was taken back to the Championship team with Raymond Felton. The steals by Frazor and Lawson, the 3-pointers by Frazor and Ellington, and the inside hustle by Hansbrough…beautiful. The next three months are going to be lovely.

 Hopefully I can get my proposal done while watching basketball…

A few of my favorite things…

As it’s Christmas, I wanted to write about a few of my favorite things, such as….

sweet phone calls from dear friends (NRR)
being with my chosen family
visiting with old friends over good food
running into old students who are doing well
worshipping with my oldest and dearest friend
the smile of MBO
the signifying that most assuredly will occur when all my folks get together

and most importantly, remembering that Jesus is still the reason for the season.

Corduroy

My favorite book of all times is a children’s story entitled, Corduroy by Don Freeman. I bought this recently to give Shavon for Christmas as she’s now the right age to begin to read it. I hadn’t read it in ages, but just knew that I loved it.

Re-reading it now, I realize how apt Freeman is in describing our simplest and yet greatest need: to love and be loved. I remember writing this in my Senior High book; it was all I wanted out of life – to love and be loved. And Corduroy realizes when he is taken home by Lisa that he’s always wanted a home and a friend.

In this time of giving and unfortunate overspending, this book brings to the center the true meaning of the holiday and what our lives should be about: home and friends, loving and being loved. In this sense, I am one of the richest, most successful and blessed people in the world. What about you?

It’s December?!?

I really can’t believe that it’s December already. 2007 is ready to leave us. It has been such a year of change and growth. Old things passing away. I got a fortune a few weeks ago when eating out with friends. Mind you I don’t put too much stock in these things, I am not trying to be Saul consulting the witch at Endor, but it said, that my best days are yet to be lived….and I’ll take that! As friends have concurred, I have been through during the first two years of this program. I am actually glad that it happened – in the sense that I learned a lot about myself in the midst of it. You need to know what you are made of, what you can handle, and what God can bring you out of sane and intact.

 Now on to bigger and better things. New horizons ahead. I am looking forward to what colors God will put on the wall next (a little Color Purple humor for those who are adept).  So if you see me walking with a sly grin you know why and for some reason if I am focusing too much on the trees instead of the forest…remind me that God’s got it under control.
